Appropriate skincare steps are real challenges for many people. In the world of skin care, there’s a lot of talk about the order in which you’re supposed to apply your products.
From cleanser, serum to moisturizer, you should apply appropriate product for the best result. Using too much or too little would bring unexpected results.
SUNSCREEN
Sunscreen is vital in skin care routine. This is considered a shield to protect the skin against UV rays. The standard number that dermatologists recommend is 2 milligrams per square centimeter of skin. So, to cover the entire face, on average, we need about 1-2g of sunscreen product. This is equivalent to 1/3 – 1/4 teaspoon.
easily causing sunburn, making the skin wrinkled and dark, accelerating the skin aging process. If put on too much, sunscreen will cause suffocation, clog pores causing acne, large pores, oily shine, dull skin …
CLEASER
Cleansers a foundational step in the order of the skincare routine. They are enriched with ingredients that emulsify dirt, excess oil and remove makeup. Take 1-2 pumps of cleanser on a dry face because taking too much with make your skin lose its natural moisture. This leads to oily, dry, irritated or acne-prone skin.
Using too much cleanser will cause the skin to gradually lose moisture, becoming drier.
TONER
“Toner is a supplemental cleansing product that’s purpose can be to either help give the skin a deeper clean or to deliver important corrective active ingredients, especially for acne,” According to Natalie Aguilar – dermatological nurse and celebrity aesthetician:
—
“It helps to remove any traces of dirt, makeup, or impurities left behind from your cleanser.”
—
Natalie Aguilar adds: “You can use a spray toner. You should spray 2-3 times, gently pat with your hands. This action both helps the nutrients to penetrate into the skin, while also massaging the skin. If you prefer to use cotton pads to apply toner, you should use 4-6 cotton pads to get enough toner for the entire face.”
FACE SCRUB
Chemical exfoliants like AHAs or BHAs will gently remove dead skin cells, build-up, and oil from the skin. Thereby, it makes your skin brighter and smoother. Marisa K. Garshick – Dermatologist in Midtown East & Upper East Side, New York advises:
—
“YOU SHOULD USE THE AMOUNT AS A COIN. WHILE APPLYING THE PRODUCT, PLEASE COMBINE WITH MASSAGE.”
—
Note that the safe concentration for the product to stay on the skin overnight is only in the range of 1-2%, and from 3% or more is required to be washed off after a certain time.
SERUM OR AMPOULE
Serums are; concentrated beauty products that contain a higher dose of some active ingredients. Since skin has seven layers, serum can well penetrate deeper into various layers of skin. They augment skin glow and minimize the effects of aging. Overall, the texture and tone of the skin are balanced.
Moreover, they have less viscosity and do not feel heavy. Add 1-2drops on your face and neck and gently tap. Do not rub aggressively and let it absorb into the skin on its own. A familiar product in the daily skin care routine with many comprehensive skin care benefits and outstanding penetration.
EYES CREAM
You only need a pea-sized amount to apply to the skin around the eyes. Aguilar shared:
—
“YOU SHOULD USE ONLY ONE LIGHT LAYER OF FACE CREAM DURING DAYTIME AND THICKER LAYER AT NIGHT BECAUSE THIS IS THE TIME OF YOUR SKIN TO REST AND REPAIR AFTER A LONG DAY.
—
She also shares: “If your eye cream is richer than your moisturizer, you should use it last. If your eye cream is as light as a serum, you should apply it before your moisturizer.”
MOISTURIZER
Moisturizer is probably an indispensable beauty product for day or night use. Therefore, you need to understand the “dosage” to use the product of its best. Avoid using too much cream to “overload” the skin.
The average amount of moisturizer that the skin needs is about 1/4 teaspoon. However, the amount of this moisturizer can vary depending on your skin condition. Besides, the weather is also an important factor to determine the amount of moisturizer you should use.
In the summer, when the humidity in the air is high, you can use a light texture cream with a low amount. On the contrary, in the winter, when the weather is dry, you will need a larger amount of moisturizer with a denser texture to keep the skin hydrated.
